FAQ

Frequently asked questions:

Q: Do I need to audition for membership ?

Reply: No, If you join the Club either as a musician or vocalist,  the relevant officer will help you evaluate how your talent can best be integrated. Beginners may find it difficult to integrate but sometimes they can play less challenging parts along with others.  If you join to be integrated in a non-musical activity, you will be free to choose your favourite area of activity.

The Club does not carry out auditions, simply because it is still rather small. As membership grows, an auditioning process may be established, because resources are limited.

Q. If I join half-way through the membership calendar year, do I still need to pay the full membership fee ?

Reply: No, click here for full info.

Q. I just want to play a bit of piano (guitar, bass, drums, percussions…) during work breaks, lunch time or after work. Can I join the Club and use facilities ?

Reply: As a general principle, no. Exceptions would have to be granted through a decision of the Committee, only. Please read here for more information on this question and why there is such a rule. The activities call for cooperation, exchange, solidarity. It is a different question if you join one of the groups and in that context you need or wish to do extra practice.

Q. As a musician or vocalist, do I need to have a set repertoire of songs and ready scores in order to join ?

Reply: No. This work is accomplished in group initiative. But of course the Club will welcome musical material you wish to bring.

Q. Do I need to speak English to join the Club ?

Reply: No, we have French, Spanish and Russian speaking members

Q. I want to join and play in a group but do not wish to perform in public. Does that exclude me from playing in the groups.

Reply: The primary goal of the Club is not to provide for performances. Nevertheless, public performances are considered a positive element in the development of skills and group play. It would be awkward for the group to have a member who will not participate fully.

Q. Can my children join the Club ?

Reply: For the time being, the youngest member is 16 years old. There had been younger members, at times. Parents must accept that the Club, respectively group leaders, does not accept any responsibilty with regards to accidents or problems that may occur on the way in or out of practice. Minors are not accepted in the area of non-musical activities.
