It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing…

The Jazz Section of the UN Music Club is again (after paralysis during Covid times) very active. Before Covid years,  musicians had put together a number of groups, thus covering many styles like traditional jazz forms, latin, funky, swing, be-bop, cool, in small or large ensembles and when it is possible a big band. With the arrival and departure of members, the situation changes. Now in 2023 we have two groups but a recovery for more more is on the way.

Notwithstanding the issue of styles, changes of persons, different levels, etc, what is always in the focus is to develop improvisational skills.

The groups have performed occasionaly at functions and events of UN organizations and also in the local community.

In 2023 the jazz groups are yet again looking for new members, mainly bass players are in demand!    Instrumentalists and vocalists are welcome.

The jazz section is not a ‘teaching-learning’ setting but seasoned improvisors will always encourage even beginners. You are discovering jazz ? You are not sure if you can/should play with us ?

If unsure about your competence or willingness to put in the discipline, please read Jamey Aebersold’s free introduction

In Memoriam:

Rick Troxel
Tribute to Rick Troxel, one of the Club’s founding members, who tragically passed away on 5 July 2011. Rick was a professionnal musician before joining the UN. He is remembered tasteful and hard driving piano playing which could at times remind you of Oscar Peterson, no less….

Hear him at a jazz concert in Nyon, 2008. (Section
