Based on an idea from\u00a0<a title=\"UN Special magazine home page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.unspecial.org\/index.html\" target=\"_new\">UN Special magazine<\/a>, the event was organized by the United Nations Office at Geneva in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme, the World Intellectual Property Organization, and the\u00a0<em>R\u00e9seau environnement de Gen\u00e8ve<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The Ariana Park which surrounds the Palais des Nations was open to the public. Visitors were able to join guided walking tours of the park, learn more about the environmental work of the United Nations through information points and roundtables, and enjoy a series of performances highlighting the rich cultural diversity of\u00a0the United Nations. Exciting and educational activities were organized for children of all ages.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The UN Music Club actively participated in the <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-961\" alt=\"Quintet on Scene Serpent\" src=\"http:\/\/unmusicclub.com\/un\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Quintet-on-Scene-Serpent.jpg\" width=\"210\" height=\"132\" \/>celebrations. Mid-afternoon, on the lush lawn behind the Palais, the Club&#8217;s jazz quintet performed on the\u00a0<a id=\"D#PDF\/SCENE SERPENT.pdf\" href=\"http:\/\/unmusicclub.com\/un\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/SCENE-SERPENT.pdf\">Scene Serpent<\/a>, playing a selection of well-known jazz standards.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The newly-formed UN World Music Project had the honour of closing the day&#8217;s festivities with a performance of tunes from around the world\u00a0on the main stage, the\u00a0<a id=\"D#PDF\/SCENE SPHERE.pdf\" href=\"http:\/\/unmusicclub.com\/un\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/SCENE-SPHERE.pdf\">Scene Sphere<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">See the July-August 2010\u00a0issue of UN Special for more\u00a0<a title=\"UN Special articles on WED 2010\" href=\"http:\/\/www.unspecial.org\/UNS697\/t41.html\" target=\"_new\">articles<\/a>\u00a0about, and\u00a0<a title=\"UN Special photo spread on WED 2010\" href=\"http:\/\/www.unspecial.org\/UNS697\/t44.html\" target=\"_new\">photos<\/a>\u00a0of, the World Environment Day activities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>World Environment Day\u00a0was held on Saturday, 5 June 2010, on the premises of the Palais des Nations and the World Intellectual Property Organization.
